Internet Explorer 7

Just downloaded Internet Explorer 7 and installed it. What a huge improvement over 6. May not be perfect, but a huge step forward.

Coaching to Win

If Bill Callahan had couched the first half of the Nebraska vs USC game to win the game as opposed to couching it to stay in the game, then the score might have been a lot closer.  Instead Callahan couched not to lose the game in the first 3 quarters leaving his offense little time to come back and make it a game.  In doing so he made it so that the Nebraska offense could make no mistakes if they were to come back and win the game.  I don't know if he gave up on any confidence he may have had in the secondary of Nebraska's defense, or he is just that poor of a coach.  At one point Bob Davey said something about Osbourne and Muskburger said that if Tom were couching there would have been more points on the board for Nebraska.  I have to agree.  Tom and his staff would have found a way to be in the game.  The defensive secondary looked so unprepared for USC.  I put the blame for the 18 point difference squarely on coaching.  The talent level is different between the two schools right now, but so is the level of coaching.  The guy on the field played hard; if the coaches would have just let them play to their potential instead of tying their hands the game would have been much closer.  Tom would have either won that game or lost by 3, not 18; Frank too for that matter.  The coaching was the main difference in this game.

West Coast

Funny, when Callahan opens up the playbook a bit we move down the field and score a touchdown. When we just try and run up the middle we can do very little. This team can play with USC if Callahan would just let them. USC is bitting hard on all the play action, they should just start playing balanced football and see how it goes.

End of the 3rd

Now at the end of the 3rd quarter Callahan decides to play football. Now he is throwing the ball and is using play action. I know you have to setup the play action, but it shoudn't take 3 quarters to do it. Let Zac Taylor run the offense and let the players make plays.

Coaching Nebraska

Who is coaching this team? We have guys catching punts inside the 5 yard line. We are running wide on 3rd and short again a super fast defense? This is the worst coaching I have ever seen. We aren't attacking USC's weaknesses, we are just playing not to get smoked. This is bullshit!!!!

Nebraska vs. USC

I am watching the Nebraska vs. USC game. What the hell it Callahan doing? Nebraska is just running the ball. Looks like Solich the year we went 7 and 7. I thought he was going to run the west coast offense? He is playing not to get blown out. He isn’t playing to win. I don’t understand, if this keeps up this will be a blow out and I and every other Nebraska fan will be asking what do we pay these coaches for?

Z06 Corvette

Last year (November 2006) I bought a 2006 Corvette Z51.  It is a great car.  By far the best car I have ever owned.  I have heard the knocks on past Corvettes and all the good things that people have had to say about the new ones.  The C6 Corvette is a huge step forward for Chevrolet and GM.

Before I bought my ’06 Corvette I owned and still own a 2001 Z28 Camaro.  I thought that was such a great car when I bought it.  The difference between the Camaro and the Corvette is so huge if you didn’t know better you would swear that they were built by two completely different companies.

Back to the Corvette.  So this is the story of how I bought my Corvettes.  In 2006 I wanted to buy a C6 Z06.  I called around and found that all but one dealership here in Arizona was selling the 2006 Z06 for well over sticker some as much as $80,000 over sticker.  I called the one dealership that was selling them for sticker and asked how I could get on their waiting list.  They told me that they could add me, but the wait was about 3 years based on current allocation.  I asked, since I have bought a few cars from the dealership and my company had done some business for them, if there was anyway to move up on the list.  They called me back a few days later and said if I bought a 2006 C6 I could have the first 2007 Z06.  I thought about it and said OK.

I guess they had offered this option to others and no one took them up on it because it would be almost impossible to get rid of a year old Corvette for what you would owe on it or you would take a huge loss if you paid cash.  I had a plan.  So I went down and custom ordered my ’06.  It is a beautiful car.

So it came around to June 2006 and the dealership called to tell me to come down and order my Z06.  I went down ordered and ordered the car the way I wanted it.  I also asked if I could push the delivery date back a month or two to help facilitate getting rid of the ’06.  They told me no and if I wanted this car, I would have to take it when it got here.  I said OK.

As I understand it from the sales person, the owners didn’t expect anybody to take them up on the offer and a few sales guys at the dealership had people waiting in the wings to take the car when I didn’t buy it.

It took about 3 months for the car to come in.  When it did, I went down and checked it out.  I fell in love with it immediately.  Filled out the paper work and drove it home the next day.  I got the car for window sticker minus the $3,500+ price increase that GM added to the Z06 after I placed my order.

Oh, how did I get rid of the ’06?  Well my father has always wanted a Corvette.  I knew when I was placing the order that my Dad would take the car when my Z06 came in.  He did and hasn’t driven his Volvo since.

To compare the Z06 to the Z51, well the interior is all that is the same.  The car is so much faster.  It is a little rougher ride, but not to bad.  The only thing I miss from the Z51 is the removable top.  But with 505 hp and 470 foot pounds of torque, I will do without the top.  I am still getting used to the power and breaking the car in.  It showed up with 3 miles on the odometer.

This is arguably the best American made sports car ever.  I didn’t think I could have more fun driving a car than I did driving the Z51, I was wrong the Z06 is a ton of fun.  If you can find for a reasonable price I would tell you to buy it and have a blast.

Michael Schumacher

Well today Michael Schumacher retired as arguable the best formula one driver ever. It is like the end of an era, I've seen all my favorite sports personalities retire, first Elway then Osbourne and now Schumacher.

There is a lot of things being said about about Michael. He did what all that strive to be and do become successful, do. He did all it took to win. Sometimes he went over the line, and in the real world that is sometimes what it takes to be the best. Look at sports figures, Jordan for example, ever heard of the Jordan rules? People may say that Michael Schumacher went to far at times, but that happens when you are pushing the envelope. Was Michael right all the time? Not at all. It is just that most people don't make such descisions and don't make them in as public an arena.

If more people on this planet had the drive that Michael has and the focus that he can muster, it would be a far better place. That is what makes him so special.

I am a fan of his and I know many others dislike him. But no matter your feelings you can't argue with his numbers.

Michael did something that no one else in Formula One has or probably ever will. He won and won and won. Formula One will lose one of it greatest champions in as little as 3 races. His true brilliance will on be realize when he is gone.

Harrison Beck

Two practices into Nebraska's spring training Harrison Beck went missing. No one knew where he was until he sent a text message saying he was ok. Not the problem I guess ends up being that Harrison didn't feel he was getting enough snaps in the two practices they had held and his mommy said he was a better QB that Zack Taylor. Well if he was so much better maybe he should have hung around? Two practices and he runs away and his mommy had to go to the press and explain that her son is the best quarterback on the team and should be getting more snaps and be number 1 on the depth chart.

Of course his mom is going to think that. Harrison might want to grow up a bit. Here are my tips for him.

1. GROW UP!!! If you are going to lead a team, don't run away from the first problem you meet.

2. Tell your mom to stay away from the press. I am sure that having your mommy go to the press and say how great you are is great for the atmosphere in the locker room.

3. If you are so good, then prove it. Go to practice and leave it all on the practice field. If you are the best on the field I don't know any coach who is going to have you riding the pine.

So Harrison transfered to South Carolina to coach Spurrier. I hope his mom gets in the middle of that. Nothing like hearing Spurrier start rattling stuff off about this mamma's boy.

Harrison, grow up, this isn't highschool anymore.

Football Rankings

Ok, so this weekend was the first weekend of college football. And the new rankings are out. Notre Dame fell as they should, probably not far enough though. Tennesse jumped big, I think to much to soon. They played like a top ten team, but again a top ten team that looked terrible. So bad I am not sure how Cal is still ranked, at least they are in the 20's. My question is how is ASU ranked? They almost got smoked by NAU. The only reason they won that game was that they had greater depth. ASU will lose a lot of games this year if they play I-A teams the way they played NAU.

I hate to say it, but I think Miami fell to far in the rankings. That was a great game. I am not sure FSU is a ton ten team, nor Miami at this point.

How does Nebraska fall after a win? Tennesee should have jumped them after they run Cal up and down the field, but who else had such a great game that they should have jumped the Huskers?

One final though. How about them Buffalo's? CU is finally back where they belong, getting beat by anybody and everybody. I think Baylor might have some competition for last in the Big 12 this year. To lose to a division II school at home. I don't know how that coach or those players can show their face around campus. I guess that is why CU hadn't played and division two schools before.
